Black Panther collected $108 million at the North American box office in its second weekend.
With that, to total of the film goes past $400 million in the domestic market and that too in just 10 days straight. This made Black Panther the fastest Marvel Cinematic Universe movie to get to over $400 million. Previously the record was 14 days and that belonged to Marvel’s The Avengers.
It has also become the fourth movie in history to collect more than $100 million in the second weekend after Star Wars: The Force Awakens($149.2 million), Jurassic World($106.6 million), and Marvel’s The Avengers($103.1 million).
In the international markets, Black Panther added around $84 million from more than 50 markets to take its overseas total to $304 million and global total to $704 million.
Black Panther opens this week in Russia and Vietnam and collected around $2.5 million each from both markets. In Russia, movie has opened in IMAX screens and will spread in all the theaters from tomorrow. The top performing market for Black Panther is United Kingdom which rakes in around $41 million so far. The film will open in japan during next weekend and it will be followed by Chinese release on March 9.
It looks like the film will break many more records in the days to come as it is appreciated by general audience as well as the critics. The film’s Rotten tomatoes score is 97%.
Black Panther is directed by Ryan Coogler and it stars Michael B Jordan of Creed 2015 fame and Chadwich Boseman among others.
