SureFly Octocoptor: A Hybrid-Electric eVTOL ‘Personal Helicopter’ that looks like a drone

78 years after the first heli ride, the helicopter has been reinvented for personal use, “A hybrid electric personal drone Octocopter”.

The flying electric vehicles of the hopefully-near future are supposed to provide, as Uber has recently announced Sophisticated Elevate network, “multi-modal, on-demand service that will reduce riders’ commute times and free up ground space.”

Elevate’s “objective is to implement an Urban Air Mobility (UAM) ridesharing network in cities across the world.”

Cincinnati-based Workhorse Group came to Los Angeles in October 2018 to show off their latest invention, SureFly eVTOL aircraft, designed for safe and easy flight.

SureFly “A hybrid-electric eVTOL multi-copter” appeared as a concept at last year’s Paris Air Show. Providing unparalleled safety for a personal aircraft, Surefly is equipped with an octo-quad layout of four arms and eight rotors.

Surefly safety features makes it reminiscent of many drones, a backup battery power system, and a ballistic parachute to safely land in the event of emergency. Workhorse plans to bring the SureFly to market some time in the next two years.

“eVTOL” refers to an Electric Vertical Takeoff and Landing vehicle
